On December 6th, 2014, in the District Hall Auditorium of Boston’s Innovation District, City Awake and Ashoka will be facilitating a discussion on Changing Systems for Awakening a Changemaker World.

This highly interactive and engaging conversation, moderated by Ashoka’s Fernande Raine, will feature the following Ashoka fellows:

  • William Foote, founder of Root Capital, is pioneering finance for grassroots businesses in rural Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa by providing capital, financial training, and market connections to small and growing businesses that build sustainable livelihoods and transform rural communities in poor environmentally vulnerable places.
  • Sasha Chanoff, co-founder of RefugePoint, works to transform and improve the sphere of refugee resettlement through a variety of interlinking strategies centered on creating the infrastructure and know-how for an appropriately trained and professionalized citizen sector to work with the United Nations and governments in ways that improve equity and access to this life-saving solution for refugees.
  • Dina Buchbinder Auron has introduced an innovative, action-oriented education model called Deport-es para Compartir to a Mexican education system that has long struggled with passivity and rigidity. Her venture empowers teachers from a variety of school settings to foster social and environmental awareness while also teaching values, such as teamwork and fair play.
  • Rushika Fernandopulle is founder of Iora Health, a network of clinics that seeks to rebuild the healthcare delivery model from scratch in the U.S. Iora starts with primary care—changing everything from the fee-for-service payment structure to the staffing to the IT systems in order to give more agency to patients and deliver better healthcare at lower cost.
  • Jake Shapiro is the co-founder of the Public Radio Exchange. He is democratizing public media by creating an open architecture and marketplace that allows new producer entrants, delivers greater choice in programming, and guides the field from traditional broadcasting to a flexible and interactive multimedia approach.
